General Info
Fardross Forest Park lies on the Clogher to Fivemiletown Road. In total the forest expands to 900 hectares but only part of the forest, adjacent to the carpark, has been designated for recreational use. A series of waymarked walks guide the visitor through varied woodland and alongside a pleasant stream. The walks follow circular routes leading back to the car park. including the river walk which is around 3/4 mile long and another walk through the woodlands.
The forest itself has a number of rarer and exoctic trees. There is also a walled garden in the park and also picnic sites.
Across the road from the forest park is Clogher Valley Country Caravan Park.
The River Trail (1km) This walk passes through the Fardross Stream (ASSI). Felling has opened up the stream side to allow native plants to recolonize the banks. PArt of the area previously planted with conifers has now been replanted with oak. The path then turns away form the stream and you walk through Larch and Sikta spruces planted in the 1940's. These trees are nearing the end of their commercial life, but some of these will be left to grow on to the end of their natural life.
The Oak & Beech Trail (1km) A pleasant stroll through young broadleaved woodland. The small strand of Oak derives from acorns sown directly into the ground along with oaks. The oat crop was cut high so as not to damage the oak seedlings. The acorns were sown in 1954 and the beech planted in 1949 with some older trees in 1917
