General Information
The Bog Museum reconstructs the life styles and habits of prehistoric Ireland excavated from Irish Boglands. It includes old artefacts which reveal much about the rich and varied history of Ireland before and after the Ice Age. There is an indoor bog, bones and large antlers of the Great Irish Elk dating back 15,000 years and bog oak sculptures and turf products.
If requested coach trips to the boglands nearby to meet the turf diggers can be arranged. Since Sept 2001 our many US coach tours have been find trips to the turf bog fascinating.
A large car park and restaurant facilities onsite are available for a quick stop with admission to museum free.
Directions
From Belfast (M1) :
1. Come off the motorway at roundabout number 14.
2. From here go round the roundabout and take off the exit for Coalisland.
3. Head up that road for approx 2.5 - 3 miles. until you come to junction with a Petrol Station on your left hand side.
4. Turn right at the junction. After a few hundred yards turn left and you are at Island Turf Craft Shop & Visitors Centre which hosts the bog museum
